SAVE THE BAY
|
|
Dear
Friend of the Bay,
With the 50th anniversary of Earth Day fast approaching, we’ve been thinking a lot about trees lately—a quintessential symbol of this special day. This week, we worked with our colleagues in Pennsylvania to craft compelling stories and videos about trees and why they are so critical to clean water. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, our partners in the Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership are hard at work, stepping out, maintaining safe distances from one another, and expecting to plant nearly 70,000 trees just this spring!
And our scrappy staff of educators continue to produce thoughtful videos, investigations, and activities (Nutrient Scavenger Hunt, anyone?) for students, teachers, and parents. Though we all might be stuck at home, connecting to and learning about our Bay doesn’t have to stop.
Our work doesn’t stop. Just yesterday, EPA continued its dangerous trend of stripping away critical environmental protections when it reversed its position on limiting power plant emissions of mercury and other toxic pollutants. Our policy experts, attorneys, and others are working overtime to fight back and ensure all progress isn’t lost.
Thank you for standing with us in these difficult times, now and always. And please enjoy this week’s Bay stories and resources. Be safe, healthy, and well.
—Emmy Nicklin, Director of Digital Communications
P.S. Celebrate Earth Day with us! With a $50 gift, you’ll receive five native tree seedlings to plant in your backyard or community.
