Open to all watershed educators.

This middle- and high school-level course is recommended for previous participants of CBF's Chesapeake Classrooms immersions and teachers already familiar with the basics of estuarine ecology.
This course is designed to support teachers' understanding of Chesapeake Bay issues through participant-driven field experiences and authentic research. During this dynamic five-day residential program, participants will explore Dorchester County's coastal habitats and iconic communities by conducting field investigations and interacting with local scientists, community members, and a partnership of coastal educators from CBF, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, and the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. A key aspect of this course looks at opportunities to integrate the use of local and national environmental data into the classroom through cross-disciplinary, hands-on field activities highlighting "Chesapeake Exploration" and "Estuaries 101" curriculum.

Length & Location: 5 days/4 nights at CBF's Karen Noonan Memorial Environmental Education Center.
Cost: $50 resource fee.
Credit: Upon successful completion of all course requirements, Maryland teachers are eligible for 3 MSDE Continuing Professional Development credits Virginia and Washington, D.C. teachers are eligible for documentation of 45 contact hours, Pennsylvania teachers are eligible for 50 Act 48 professional development hours. Graduate Credit is available from Mary Baldwin University.
