Celebrate the Lafayette River becoming the first tributary in Virginia to meet Chesapeake Bay Program oyster restoration goals.
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), Elizabeth River Project (ERP) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will host this celebration.
Join the official flotilla in planting oysters at 11 a.m. to complete the most recently expanded Lafayette sanctuary reef off the Hermitage Museum and Gardens. Launch your boat, kayak, paddleboard, or canoe beforehand. A limited number of canoes will be available on a first come basis. Each participant will receive an oyster shell to place on the reef.
Afterwards, participants are invited to the Hermitage Museum for lunch from noon to 2:00 p.m. where we will hear from some distinguished guests and restoration partners.
There is no rain date for this event.
