Our Water, Our Watershed: Connecting Montgomery County to the Chesapeake Bay

Open to upper elementary and middle school educators in Montgomery County Public Schools.

The pre-course orientation will be held on May 17th at the Lathrop E. Smith Environmental Education Center.

Join us for this unique professional learning opportunity as we spend 5 days locally in and around Montgomery County, exploring the connections between our daily activities and the Ecology of the Potomac River, its tributaries and the Chesapeake Bay. MCPS Elementary Teachers will participate in Hands-on learning of Stream ecology, authentic water quality investigations, and schoolyard assessments, using the natural and social systems found throughout their local watershed. To help teachers build the confidence needed to use the environment as a context for interdisciplinary learning. Working aboard a research vessel on the Potomac river, canoeing along the Monocacy River, tasting fresh local seafood and Creating our own SHED-STORIES will serve as highlights for the course.

Length & Location: 5 local investigation days within Montgomery County.
Cost: $50 registration fee.
Credit: This course qualifies for 3 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits from MSDE for Maryland teachers.
