Full STEAM Ahead: Exploring Biodiversity of the Mid-state

Open to central Pennsylvania educators grades k-12.

Participating educators will use STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) disciplines as a lenses for engaging in hands-on, field based investigations into biodiversity in Susquehanna River basin of central Pennsylvania and the impacts that different land uses have on the natural environment. We will investigate the importance of diversity on ecosystems, how non-native and invasive plants and animals impact the ecology of the area, what impacts humans have on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and how we can better integrate ourselves into the natural world. Participants will explore various aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems of the midstate region participating in collections and surveys of plants and animal along side local experts from private and public sectors. We will visit museums, nature centers, state parks and forests, dams, and other areas of interest to gain a stronger sense of place in the natural world and how humans fit into it.

Cost: $50 resource fee.
