We're celebrating the beginning of a turn for the better in the Chesapeake’s fish and crab habitat. Oyster restoration is beginning to make a difference and it can be seen in the return of healthy populations of popular reef fish.
We want to celebrate this return, keep it growing, and give Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) some data on recreational fishing opportunities around these restoration projects. Join us for a tournament that focuses on six restoration reef areas:
Multiple partners have worked together to build these reefs, including the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office, Coastal Conservation Association Maryland, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and the MD DNR.
This tournament is a little different. You don't win just by catching the biggest fish. Prizes will be awarded for how many species you catch, and then how big your fish are. We’re celebrating variety, and the return of some of these great reef species that we’ve been missing. Come join us!
ENTRY FEE: $50 Includes entry, lines out, party food, and giveaways. Register Prior to September 1 to be guaranteed a free fishing tournament shirt.
YOUTH ENTRY: CCA Youth Members aged 17 and under may participate for free with a participating adult. See registration page for details.
This is a catch, photograph, and release tournament. All fish must be photographed and entered through the iAngler Tournament smartphone app.
Grand Prize will be awarded to the highest overall diversity of species caught, then by the collective length of the all fish caught.
There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes in each division, based on the number of fish species entered. When there is a tie in number of species, the total length of the largest individuals of each species determines the winners. All finfish species caught by hook and line are eligible, including oyster toads.
WAIVER: Each participant must submit a completed waiver to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation prior to fishing in order to participate. Completed waivers may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to 114 S. Washington St., Suite 103, Easton, MD 21601. Anglers that have not completed a waiver prior to the start of the tournament will be disqualified. Download waiver form.
